Thanksgiving day
Ò Is a traditional celebration of the United States and Canada.
Ò It’s on the fourth Thursday in November, but originally made last Wednesday.
Ò Thanksgiving is usually celebrated with a large family meal, it is also often a time for weekend getaways
Ò Most people in the United States celebrate this holiday with family gatherings in their homes where they prepare a feast. In many homes it is popular to offer a prayer of thanks. The traditional main course for dinner is a great roast turkey or baked.
Ò This day the families eat mashed potatoes and vegetables, too.
Ò For desert they eat apple pie.
Ò Various First Nations in Canada had long-standing traditions celebrating the harvest and giving thanks for a successful bounty of crops.
Most businesses and offices are closed on this day. Some stores, malls, restaurants and bars are open. The Friday following the traditional festival is the opening of the holiday shopping season. This day is known as Black Friday. Stores and shops all offer bargain prices and many people go from early morning to the malls.
