The day of Maundy Money it’s a very old tradition, from one thousand years ago, is the day before Good Friday so it’s in the Thursday Maundy, it changes every year like Easter and it depending the moon and different things. On that day the Queen give Maundy Money to the old people. The coins are silver and it can be fourpenny threepenny, twopenny, and one penny. The coins come in a little bag. The tradition comes to the time of Christ, he wash the feet of the poor people and the feet from his disciples and the Queen and the King now continue the tradition and they washing the feet of the poor old people, it’s an act to humility .The tradition to give money to the poor people start at the legislature from Charles II. In the nineteen century this tradition, and the tradition to wash the feet from the poor people it substituted for give food and clothes. Henry IV began a practice that consists in give different recipients to each person referent to the age that they are.
When? In the day before Good Friday, so in Thursday Maundy.
Why? Because it’s a very old tradition and they want to continue.
How? Giving Maundy Money to the poor old people.
Who? The Queen and the King from England.
Origin: Maundy in Latin it means “mandatum”, Jesus Christ commanded: “And now I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”
